However, the safety of all guests is of utmost importance and Jane has requested that no guests engage in physical contact (including hugging or handshaking) whilst at the venue.

Seating inside the auditorium will be general admission (with the exception of immediate family, those traveling from Victoria and those speaking or performing). Please sit in groups no larger than six attendees, and allow two seats on either side of each group.

Jane has requested that those traveling from Victoria get a COVID-19 test no later than Wednesday 8th July with negative results received by Thursday 9th July ahead of traveling. When in transit, please wear a mask and practice good respiratory hygiene. Those traveling from Victoria will be seated in allocated seating in their own section of the auditorium.

If you live in the current hotspot suburbs identified by the Victorian government, you must not attend this event.

There will be no official proceedings or wake immediately following the funeral due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions. A number of food and beverage options will be available at Eat St before and after the funeral – for more information please head to

Michael’s wish was to shine a light on germ cell cancer and other lesser-known cancers, which require better treatments, clinical trials and resources. Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, where Michael was lovingly cared for during his treatment, is the largest cancer clinical trial centre in New South Wales. Research and trials are carried out by the same clinicians who treat patients, shortening the path between discovery and new treatments.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, Michael’s family has set up a fund in Michael’s memory and encourage you to make a donation to this fund, which will go towards clinical trials and germ cell cancer research at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. Donations can be made at

Everyone who knew Michael knows how much he loved to dress up. Please dust off your fanciest frocks, your snappiest shoes and dress “Falzon-appropriate” for his final performance – colourful, glamorous, stylish and sharp.

There will be no official proceedings or wake immediately following the funeral due to COVID-19 social distancing restrictions.  We’ve put together a list of some of Michael’s favourite things for you to enjoy before or after this celebration of his life. Please use these suggestions to create your own special experience to remember and celebrate Michael this week.

Michael had very expensive taste when it came to wine – please feel free to use your fanciest glasses and raise a toast in his honour today.

BUBBLES: Billecart-Salmon Brut Rose or any Champagne
WHITE: A good Chablis or a buttery Chardonnay
RED: Central Otago Pinot Noir or an expensive full-bodied red.
SPIRITS: Any peaty Scotch or other whiskey

Michael was a passionate foodie and always enjoyed sharing a meal with his nearest and dearest. Today, choose whatever you’d like to eat – just keep it aggressively vegetarian.

Michael loved woody, earthy and spicy smells. Some good scents to accompany the day would be cedarwood, patchouli and cloves.
